Deep-Cleaning Spike As Vendors Enter Housing Market

With the housing market re-opened, many vendors are looking to place their home on the market. There are many important parts of the sales process, but cleaning the house is vital. Of course, in the current climate, cleanliness and hygiene is vital.

Some vendors would normally turn to a cleaning company to carry out a deep clean, but this isn’t an option right now. Therefore, homeowners need to clean their house themselves to ensure they reach out to likely buyers.

It is crucial you clean your home to a high standard

If you are looking for assistance in cleaning your home before selling it, the following products offer an alternative to commercial cleaning products.

·         Vodka/rubbing alcohol

·         Salt

·         Liquid dish soap

·         Lemons

·         Distilled white vinegar

·         Baking soda

It is always worthwhile following official guidelines, and there are guidelines from Public Health England.

Public Health England information states; “Transmission of Covid-19 is most likely to happen from having close contact with a symptomatic person ie being within two metres of them for over 15 minutes. However, it is also possible to become infected by touching surfaces or objects that have been contaminated with respiratory secretions from an infected person and then touching your own mouth, nose or eyes.”

The information also states; “Under most circumstances, the amount of infectious virus on any contaminated surfaces is likely to have decreased significantly by 24 hours but regularly cleaning frequently touched surfaces will help reduce the risk of infection.”

Izzy Hussain, owns a domestic cleaning company in Wolverhampton, and spoke to the BBC saying cleaning is all about common sense. Izzy said; “I think we all know what to do but we've just forgotten or taken cleaning less seriously as our lives have got busier. We have a lot of vulnerable clients - elderly people and working families with children too, and it's easy to overlook things. With this scare - and it is scary - we've been wearing disposable gloves out on jobs to protect ourselves, but otherwise our standards have remained as high as they've always been. I would just say it's time to go back to basics and clean your home not just regularly but often.”

While all rooms are important when cleaning your house, vendors should pay attention to their kitchen and bathroom. These are rooms where hygiene is crucial. We have some tips for you to consider for these two rooms.

Bathroom cleaning tips

·         Scrub all tiles and grout with an appropriate bleach cleaner, and then rinse the area

·         Scour the sink, paying close attention to all chrome surfaces

·         Clean the tub and shower, using baking soda and vinegar if you require additional assistance in scrubbing tough stains or marks

Kitchen cleaning tips

·         Clear out cabinets and drawers and wipe them down a mild cleaner and sponge

·         Empty and defrost your fridge and clean the inside

·         Ensure all glass elements in the kitchen are cleaned with a specialist glass cleaner

·         If you are leaving any appliances, ensure they are cleaned to a high standard

·         Remove all oven racks, drip pans and grills from a stove and scrub them clean

·         Scrub the sink and focus on chrome finishes

·         Wipe down your dishwasher
