What People Do When Working From Home

While many aspects of everyday life that we would probably take for granted has changed in recent weeks, the average working day is one of the most significantly altered. With many people now developing a rhythm of working from home and perhaps facing up to a lengthy spell of remote working, it is interesting to see how people have responded to working from home.

Figures for 2019 suggest just 5% of the UK workforce worked from home regularly. Less than 30% of the UK workforce had worked from home at any point. It is safe to say the figures for 2020 will be markedly different.

A lot of people had a perception about home working that has turned out to be false. For some people, homeworking was likely to involve as little work as possible, watching TV and taking things easy. Now that more people are working from home, these individuals see the reality is something very different.

People need a good working environment

Anyone looking to be productive while working from home needs a good set-up. Your surroundings should be comfortable, but not too comfortable. You can see why many people have ended up investing in home office equipment to facilitate the working from home process.

In March 2020, the number of computer monitor purchases according to e-commerce figures rose by 172%. For office chairs, the rise was 104%, and for office desks, there was an increase of 89%. These figures indicate many people were ill-prepared for home working, and there was a need to quickly create a suitable working environment.

Also, if many people have made a sizable commitment, financially and with space to home working, there is a more substantial likelihood many people will want to retain this style of working in the future.

There has also been data which indicates the demand for technological products at this time.

Video conference technology is crucial these days

If you are working from home, there is a strong chance you will be familiar with Zoom. This is one of the leading video conference call providers, and you might have used Zoom to connect with colleagues or clients.

In December 2019, Zoom hosted an average of 10 million meetings a day. In March 2020, Zoom hosted an average of 200 million sessions a day.

Google provides another interesting statistic. The online search engine specialist states that in April 2020, there was a 190% rise in searches for garden office pods. Whether people don’t have enough space at home, or they need a quieter environment to work, it looks as though many people are making concrete plans to work remotely for many years to come.

We know this is a challenging time, and for many households, the thought of buying or selling property is far from their mind. However, we also know many people are keen to keep themselves entertained, and some people may have property market issues.
